Moonless

Source: "Moon Princess", repainted by tissine
I waited
For the father who loved me beyond the skies and the seas
He swore my well being over others
He kept me from harms way
With him I was safe.

I waited
For a time he'll come back
News of the war he had won
That I am safe and free again
Out of hiding
From predators everywhere.

I waited
Anticipating saviour
Or predators it could be
The growl of hunger
My only company.

I waited
In my dreams I was young and pretty
Loved and envied
The beautiful lucky princess
Protected by the moon.

I wrote this thinking about the folklore from Kedah, Malaysia: Puteri Lindungan Bulan (lit. translation: Moon Protected Princess)
I wondered how it's like to be hidden, then forgotten till death.
